“...It was a pleasure dealing with a contractor who does what he says he is going to do, when he says he is going to do it, and for the price he quoted. My friends were correct when they said you were the best painter. Thank you for an excellent, clean, quality job...” read more...

Exterior Painting

Painting the outside of your house can yield “wow” results like nothing else. With a little preparation and the right color choices, you can easily emphasize the attractive details, minimize the less appealing features and actually change the entire appearance of your home.

For the best results, start with the proper preparation. You may want to begin by considering your color and design options. For inspiration, take a tour of your neighborhood, and look at the homes with a similar style to yours. If it helps, take a few photos of your house before you begin. The most popular color and design choices are midtones, which add warmth and visual depth. Choose contrasting colors for walls and trim.

Before choosing your paint, however, be sure to take mother nature into consideration. Look for a good exterior paint that offers long term benefits, such as: withstanding extreme weather conditions and resisting chalking, cracking, and peeling. You may also want to consider texcote rather than paint as it can provide your home with maximum protection against mother nature, as well as freedom from regular maintenance.

You can help your contractor get the job done, while also saving yourself money by avoiding any inconveniences and expenses. First of all, make sure you plan the job on a day with proper weather conditions. You may also want to protect your flowerbeds, bushes, decks, and paved areas with drop cloths. Inspect the exterior of your home and scrape off any existing blistered or cracking paint. You can also sand the exterior surface so the primer or paint can adhere properly. Finish up by washing the surfaces to remove any dust, dirt, and grime. Also, consider having your contractor use a sprayer instead of the traditional roller, as that can make the job last anywhere from a couple of day to a couple of weeks to finish, depending on the size of your home.

Painting is one of the most commonly done home renovations. It can give an entire new look to your home’s exterior without making any changes to its structure. Though many people like to paint their house on their own, it is advisable to hire a painting contractor for the task. A painting contractor will not only give your house the perfect finish, but also provide you with the best of professional services, thus giving better results than any do-it-yourself work.

I invite you to visit our web site more often for information on Tips Of Trade pertaining to the painting industry. I post new articles every month on topics that can be helpful to both the painting contractor and the homeowner.

Another important point I would like to make is: to a painting contractor time and quality of finish is very important. The less time wasted using cheep equipment the more productive and profitable he will be.

Re: Exterior Painting

This looks like a great idea, thanks. I've been looking at doing a little home restoration painting this summer and am excited for it. I'm just wondering if there's a specific exterior paint that you would recommend. Living here in the South we tend to get some heavy wind and rain sometimes and a good can of paint is plumb necessary.
